Issue 4 of our e-magazine is prevailed by the articles focused on the urban and architectural heritage conservation issues, showing that there are common acute problems requiring further discussion and analysis. Problems of the Kiev heritage preservation in the wider context of the cultural heritage protection in the ex-Soviet and Eastern European countries are touched upon by Dr. Olena Oliynyk (Ukraine), while a pilot project proposal for the development of Avlevi lane is presented by a group of authors – Dr. D. Tumanishvili, G. Kighuradze, N. Chitishvili, T. Khosroshvili, N. Natsvlishvili (Georgia). Problems of renovation of “Yerevan” hotel are analysed by Dr. Nune Chilingaryan (Armenia) and reconstruction of the historical Garni bridge with problems linked with it are discussed by Yeva Sargsyan (Armenia). Continuing the topic presented by our Moldavian colleague in the previous issue, museification of the Bender Fortress as a tool for its protection is discussed by a group of authors – Dr. Eugen Sava, Dr. Ion Tentiuc, Dr. Ana Boldureanu (Moldova).
We would like to thank the authors for their contribution and co-operation.

Urban Heritage

An area under study is bordered by Nino and Ilia Nakashidze Lane, Nino and Ilia Nakashidze and Ietim Gurji Streets where fourteen dwellings stand. Most of them are built during the nineteenth century, although only three of them are listed. Several houses are built in 1980s and 2000s. On the Future of the Tighina/Bender Fortress – One of the most enigmatic medieval Bastions in the Prut-Dniester region
The Tighina/Bender Fortress is one of the largest medieval bastions in the Prut-Dniester region. It is, however, one of the lesser-known fortifications that has not been studied systematically. The Tighina/Bender fortress, together with others situated on the right bank of the Dniester River – the fortresses of Hotin, Soroca, Old Orhei (Orheiul Vechi), and Cetatea Alba (Akkerman), formed an effective defensive system that protected the borders of the Moldavian Principality.
