8th International Capacity Building Workshop – “Co-operation of ICOMOS National Committees of East and Central European Countries on Management of World Heritage Properties”

On 23-24 January , 2014 teh presidents and representatives of Central and Eastern European National Committees of
ICOMOS met at an event “Co-operation of ICOMOS National Committees of East and Central European
Countries on Management of World Heritage Properties” organized in Tbilisi by ICOMOS Georgia within an EU
funded project Regional Co-operation for Cultural Heritage Development. Participants have elaborated Action Plan for ICOMOS Central and European Initiative for Cooperation. (text attached)
Participants of the Workshop Concerned with the recent developments in Kyiv, have drafted the following text of appeal:

The ICOMOS National Committees of Central and Eastern Europe express their concern with the hostilities in the capital of Ukraine, Kyiv.

We deeply regret that recent events resulted in the human deaths.

We appeal to all parties of the conflict to seek ways of peaceful resolution.

We support the concern of ICOMOS National Committee of Ukraine appealing for attention to the events developing in Kyiv and threats to safety and life of the staff members of the institutions located in the epicentre and vicinity of the armed conflict.

We share concern of our Ukrainian colleagues, who warn about the risks of destruction of architectural monuments and loss of valuable collections, namely, those of the National Art Museum and National Parliamentary Library of Ukraine.

We express our solidarity with the people of Ukraine!
